Seitz Camper Van Windows
Bailey Ranger WindowI remember those days, that looks like a chemical toilet in your picture, at least ours was a outside flushing loo. We never had the luxury of that grease proof paper, we just used torn up newspaper.
We had to pass the bailey ranger window bathroom on the way, which was one of those galvanised steel ones hanging on the fence. It came in on a Friday, mum had her bath first, then dad, then my brother and finally me being the youngest. All in the same water. |
Abbey Caravan Front Windows |
Heki 2 Rooflight |
When I was about 8 my aunt down the abbey caravan front windows in bathroom fitted, and we used to go down there once a week. I think I was about 12 when we had our bathroom fitted. What luxury!
Having said that I think the world was a better place, and generally speaking people were happy with their lot. I can remember an Aunt in Frederick street Stoke on Trent that had a toilet in the yard you went in and sat on a wooden hole then after she would come and empty the bucket from under it no chemicals no lid what she did with it i don't know but can remember it well. Bailey Caravan WindowsWhen I was little we had bailey caravan windows fixed while we stayed in a family b&b in Wales somewhere in what was a terrace of houses with the loo at the bottom of the garden which I used to use until one day there was a rattle at the door and "Mam! There's someone in our toilet" Turns out I had been usuing next door's loo for most of the week. Mind it was nicer than the one I was supposed to be using.
When my gran got married they moved from Clayton, Newcastle under Lyme, to a big house on Anglesey, North Wales. |
Well when I was a young lass we had the heki 2 rooflight in the loo down the bottom of the garden, it was a flushing one though complete with all resident spiders. Mind you take some going to get through that load of paper.
We had Andrex loo rolls I think....remember the school loos having that awful tracing paper though. Sad I remember it all - but guess that's because my mum all about them. I do remember though in the winter icy weather having to go on a bucket in the back porch cause we couldn't get down to the loo. No indoor toilet for us in them days in the 50.s.... Wonder how many youngsters would like that idea then. Caravan Roof WindowI loved it there, they had outbuildings, a stable, a garage, and a greenhouse and they had an outside loo. There was one upstairs, but i was out in the back garden quite a bit and it came in handy I can tell you.
Especially if I came home from the beach early and they were out and I was in dire need! It was handy in the rain too. I used to get the train down in the winter, to Bangor, and then get a bus to the village, and walk to the house and sometimes they were maybe at the caravan roof window shops when I arrived, so I'd go in there (If the pub at the top of the road was closed!) |

Lunar Caravan Windows
Once I arrived late at night and not wanting to wake them up I'd climb in the lunar caravan windows and go to sleep in the touring caravan in the drive (I had a key). I remember one year my uncle and I went to pick some potatoes, we tipped them into the trailer behind the car from metal baskets we were using, into a bed of sawdust to stop them getting bruised.
Early the next summer I was out back and found potato plants growing in the trailer from the previous year; they were well established and by late summer I harvested them. My uncle used to sit in the garden and peel them and then do all the veg with his penknife! When you think of all the health scares to do with food we see these days; we never had anything like that in those days.
